I was excited to see that I
could register on your site. I seem to have lost track over the years of
people that I got close with at Dinfos. I have wonderful memories. I spent
six months there. It was a special school. That was proven by times at
future duty stations where you'd sit around with people that attended the
school at a different time than you. You'd share stories and laugh and
totally understand where the person was coming from. I wanted to register
with the hope that even one of those people would find me.

DINFOS had a great influence, and
was a turning point of sorts in the development of my "career"
or professional life. I think of DINFOS as the "real world" MBA
I gave myself while on active duty, while most of my friends were working
toward their MBA's in civilian life. I developed a professional
confidence, as well as competence, in public relations through DINFOS and
the information-related assignments the Army provided me, that helped me
move effectively into a professional public relations career. And,
contrary to some of the popular cynicism about military information
policies, I strengthened the sense of professional ethics ("Maximum
Disclosure. Minimum Delay.") that has stood me well in the agency and
corporate world for a third century following my DINFOS indoctrination.
And DINFOS demonstrated to me that the PR world could be a lot of fun,
too, because of the upbeat experience I had at Fort Benjamin Harrison
during the eight weeks or so in 1968, before I embarked for Viet Nam.

My
DINFOS training helped me throughout my 32+ years Marine Corps career. I
was a combat correspondent from Sept 1972 to July 1993, today I work in
Governmental Public Affairs.

I
got a bypass specialty based on civilian experience and broadcast courses
I took in college so I never made it to DINFOS. They did, however,
make me an "Honorary Graduate" a few years back when I spoke
there. Does that count?
