DINFOS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
P.O. BOX 26925
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA 46226-9001

An Executive Council meeting of the DINFOS Alumni Association convened on May 1, 2010, at ll:30 AM at The Garrison at Ft. Harrison State Park. Present were:

Jack Rubak
Mike Davis
Bob Foster
Mike LaBonne
Helen Stritt

  • The President, Jack Rubak, opened the meeting. He mentioned that the last membership meeting of the DINFOS Alumni Association was held on January 23, 2009,and minutes were prepared and posted on our website: www.dinfosalum.org

He further mentioned that the current DINFOS Commandant is Colonel Gary Keck. A letter was sent to him shortly after he arrived describing the Alumni Association and his returned response regarding the Association was very positive. Also, he was very pleased to learn that the Alumni Association has made periodic donations to the school’s Savanuck Library collection to include the one we made in December 2009.

An update of the school at Ft. Meade is attached to the minutes of our January 23, 2010 meeting. The school continues to turn out around 3000 plus students a year and currently there is a lot of construction of new buildings. The Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs will be housing all related Information Activities at Ft. Meade. The school is still sending faculty members to teach public affairs overseas to appropriate “selected groups.”

The video shown to students upon their graduation concludes with mention of the DINFOS Alumni Association and informs students that they can sign up for a one-year, free membership in the Association. Students are provided with Membership Cards and a Brochure describing the Alumni Association. So far, over 300 students have signed up for membership.

Discussion then began on the following agenda items:

  • When we mail out membership packages to our new members, we need to publicize the advantages of membership. A list of the objectives and purposes of the Alumni Association (see attached) will be sent to Bob Foster for posting on our website.

  • Rubak presented a slate of Executive Council member positions. Upon review, those present proposed the following:

  • Jack Rubak, President; Tom Conrad, Vice President in Charge of Programs; Mike LaBonne, Vice President for Memberships; Robert Foster, Vice President in Charge of the DINFOS Website; Mike Davis, Vice President for Historical Data; and Helen Stritt, Secretary. This slate was unanimously approved by those present and it will be presented at our next membership meeting. We are, however, still in need of a Treasurer.

  • Bob Foster mentioned again his interest in applying for our non-profit status from the State. The Alumni Association held a non-profit status from the state of Indiana when it was first established and remained in effect until 1995 when DINFOS moved to Ft. Meade. An Alumni Association chapter at Ft. Meade was short lived because of lack of leadership in establishing a chapter, and all of our records to include our not-for profit status (50K) sent to the school at that time were lost. Rubak said he will continue his efforts to reinstate our non-profit status.

  • As to establishing a Chapter at Ft. Meade, Bob Foster suggested that a couple of Executive Council members go to Ft. Meade to motivate the establishment of a Ft. Meade Alumni Chapter and to get the Commandant’s approval to mention this at a Commandant’s Call.

  • We will also try to obtain contacts in the DC area who may be interested in setting up a chapter. Rubak said he will see if Keith Oliver, our point of contact at DINFOS, has any names he can give us.

  • Since we do not have much revenue coming in at this time, a suggestion was made to contact our life members about making a donation toward the purchase of books for the DINFOS Library or the purchase of other items that may be needed at the school.

The meeting adjourned at l:45 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Rubak, President
Helen Stritt, Secretary
