Jack Rubak opened the meeting

Col Billy Spangler, USA-Ret,
called with news of the passing of Navy Captain J.B. Smith,
age 92, a former DINFOS Assistant Commandant. |

Master Chief, who had been assigned to the DINFOS PA

are awaiting his reply. |
 |
A letter was received from
Rod Hargo nominating Les Payne, a Pulitzer Prize winning
reporter and a DINFOS IOBC graduate, to the DINFOS Alumni
Association Hall of Fame. The information on Mr. Payne will
be presented at our next Alumni Association meeting, and we
will also solicit other Hall of Fame nominees. Hall of Fame
criteria sheets will be distributed. Also, a Hall of Fame
criteria sheet will be sent to Bob Foster for posting on our
website. |
 |
An article on DINFOS
entitled “Video Boot Camp” written by a 1978 DINFOS Graduate

was distributed. (See attached.) |
 |
LTC Chuck Ricks, USA-Ret,
former Director of the DINFOS Broadcasting Department and

him up to speak at a future meeting on his experiences in
Afghanistan. |

The President distributed a
letter received from a retired military officer about the
Field of Valor section of Crown Hill Cemetery devoted to
retired military personnel. Tom Conrad will look into this
as a possible secondary speaker at one of our meetings. |
Names were solicited for a
stellar speaker at our next Alumni Association meeting. These
names were suggested:
. Mike Ahearn, retired TV
Channel 8 news anchor
. Joe Marsh with the
American Legion
. Don Lundy, manager of TV
Channel 6 and a former DINFOS graduate

the Ball State Journalism Department
. Mike Davis will contact
Mr. Boonhauer, an historian who is researching
information on Grissom
Air Force Base.
A date for the next Alumni
Association was set for April 9 but was later changed to April
16.
Tom Conrad asked about the
status of establishing an Alumni Association at DINFOS Ft.
Meade. Dr. Rubak stated that an office at Ft. Meade has been
set aside, and Col Hiram Bell, Commandant, will try to contact
one of the former Chiefs of Public Affairs to help establish
an alumni group in Washington DC. Col Bell will be asked to
give us an update for our April meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 1230
PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jack Rubak, President
