INDIANA CHAPTER
DINFOS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
P.O. BOX 26925
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA 46226-9001

The Executive Council of the Indiana Chapter of the DINFOS Alumni Association met on September 11, 2004, at The Garrison at Ft. Harrison State Park.  Present at the meeting were:

Dr. Rubak, President
Bob Dittmer
Mike Davis
Bob Foster
Helen Stritt, Secretary

The meeting was opened by a moment of silence commemorating the anniversary of the terrorists attack that occurred on September 11, 2001.

The President read a couple of e-mail messages he received.  One was from Chuck Ricks who is currently in Afghanistan working with the Ministry of Defense under a civilian contract, and the other was from Colonel Ronald Grubb, a former DINFOS Commandant.

In reply to our request for a Treasurer, Dr. Rubak mentioned an e-mail message from Craig Ito who indicated he would be willing to fill the position.  His nomination was unanimously approved.

A discussion then began on the next Alumni Association meeting.  The interest was in getting Jack Pulwers, author of the book, "The Press of Battle:  The GI Reporter and the American People."  An earlier suggestion was to have Mr. Pulwers come and speak to journalism students as well as to our Alumni Association members to share his travel and lodging expenses.  This was agreeable to both parties, and the dates of October 29 was proposed for him to speak at IUPUI and October 30, at the DINFOS Alumni Association meeting at 11:30 at The Garrison.  Dr. Rubak will call Jack Pulwers to confirm these dates and also to ask his permission to videotape his presentations.

The next order of business was awarding DINFOS students a one-year free membership upon their graduation and then to prepare an application for these graduates to complete and return giving their duty assignment.  After a year from their graduation, they will be mailed membership applications to see if they want to continue their memberships and pay the required membership fee.

Dr. Rubak reported he had received a message from Tom Conrad who has prepared the wording for the new Life Members Certificates and forwarded this information to Jan Walton.  In turn, Jan Walton expressed the need for a DINFOS Crest to put on the Certificates.  Bob Foster said he thought he could pull up a Crest from the Association's Website.  (He did this, and several pictures of the school crest have been forwarded to Jan Walton.)

As to the not-for-profit status for the DINFOS Alumni Association, Bob Dittmer said he has been going through the financial documents from which he will create tax documents for the years that are missing.  He will then turn this information over to the tax accountant, Bob Shaw, who will prepare these documents for the state of Indiana.

Bob Foster expressed the need for new ideas and material to add to the website.  He will contact Chuck Ricks to see if he can give him some updates on his duties in Afghanistan for posting on the website.

The last order of business was discussion on the previous suggestions made to honor the deceased Alumni Association members.  Those present were in agreement to dedicate a book collection in the DINFOS Savanuck Library, and we will purchase books in the name of each deceased member.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at l:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

                                                                 Jack Rubak, President

                                                                 Helen Stritt, Secretary
