INDIANA
CHAPTER
DINFOS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
P.O. BOX 26925
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA 46226-9001
An Executive Council meeting of the Indy
Chapter of the DINFOS Alumni Association was held at 8:30 am on November 4,
2000, at the Veranda Restaurant (formerly known as the Durbin Restaurant)
located in the Marriott Hotel, 7202 E. 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN.
Present at the meeting were the following:
Dr. Jack Rubak
Jack Rubak opened the meeting by
giving a synopsis of the “welcome letter” he had prepared to Colonel Hiram
Bell, the new DINFOS Commandant. The following suggestions were made to add to
the letter:
-
Renew the awarding of a Certificate and
a year’s free membership to the top graduate in each of the major DINFOS
courses.
-
Qualify the support we need from the
school.
-
Revisit the concept of awarding a
year’s free membership to all graduating students. To do this we will need
the names, units and e-mail addresses.
John Brady, the Treasurer, said we now have
$9,600 in the treasury. A suggestion was made to transfer most of the funds into
Certificates of Deposit, laddering the deposits to come due at different times.
Names for guest speakers for the
December 2, 2000 meeting as well as other future meetings were proposed as
follows:
MG Ronald Brooks, USA-Ret, a former Ft.
Harrison post commander.
Colonel Querefeld, USA-Ret, a former Ft.
Harrison Chief of Staff
Mr. Fred Heckman, retired WIBC news director
Mr. Bo Conner, retired editor of the Indianapolis Star
The PAO and his NCO from Wright Patterson AFB
Dr. Jim Brown, Chairman of JUPUI’s Journalism Department
Bob Dittmer will ask Chuck Ricks, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lawrence, to
give an update on what is new at Ft. Harrison.
Nominations will be solicited at the
December meeting for a replacement Treasurer and the Vice Present in charge of
Policy.
Jack Rubak then mentioned the loss of
interest expressed by some of the Executive Board members in actively
participating in the running of the Alumni Association. They are glad to get
together at the three yearly meetings but do not have the time to give to other
duties.
A proposal was made by Jack Rubak to give a
contribution to the school, but the executive council members would prefer to
have support for the Alumni Association from the school before we do this.
Bob Foster would like to have the
e-mail addresses of those who attend meetings and suggested we have a sign up
sheet for this at the next dinner meeting.
The frequency of our meetings was
discussed, and a decision was made to keep the meetings three times a year, with
one of those being a dinner meeting where we will induct individuals to the Hall
of Fame.
The names of MG Sidle and MG Bussey were
suggested as nominations to the DINFOS and OCPA Halls of Fame.
A suggestion was made to have our
luncheons or dinners underwritten, possibly by the American Legion or Time Life
Books.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30.
ADDENDUM:
The next luncheon meeting of the Indiana
Chapter of the DINFOS Alumni Association, originally scheduled for December 2,
2000, has been moved to January 27, 2001.
