Google has granted a
non-profit/education GoogleApps
account for the organization. We are
back on track to provide full services to
our membership.
Thanks
Google!

We are working to enroll
members into the email service.
Unfortunately it is a manual process --
every member must be entered from the
keyboard. It will will take awhile to
accomplish the task.
August 15, 2010
Transfer to our new hosting
company (PowWeb) was initiated today.
DNS servers across the world should be
updated with 48 hours.
July 27, 2010
We are in the process of
transferring our website to a new web
hosting company. This new company will
be able to provide us with the number of
e-mail accounts that our membership
requires. Once all of the materials have
been transferred to the new company we
will begin populating the Web with the
e-mail account requests currently on hand,
and any new ones that we receive.
June 20, 2010
As we
prepared to populate Google Apps with your @dinfosalum.org
email addresses, Google announced a cap on
the total number of accounts we could have
with a "Standard Edition" free
account. When we first enrolled we
could only have 250 email addresses, with
the option of requesting more. The
request for more email accounts was made
on April 19th, 2010. We finally
received an answer on June 17th, and, as you
will see, the result is not what we were
hoping for (extraneous material deleted):

Hello,
As we’ve changed the way we manage requests for more user accounts please review the following information and follow the relevant instructions. Google Apps Standard Edition Customers
---------------------------------------
We've capped the free Google Apps Standard Edition at
50 users per organization. Existing organizations with more than 50 Standard Edition accounts will remain unaffected by this change but will no longer be able to request more accounts. Alternatively, we offer Google Apps Premier Edition at
$50 USD per account per year. One Premier Edition user account includes one email inbox, as well as access to the services included in Google Apps Premier Edition as described at
http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/editions.html.
For more information on how to upgrade to Google Apps Premier Edition visit

Ok.
Let's do the math together.
Current
DINFOSALUM
dues $25.00
Add cost for Google
Premier
50.00
Future minimum dues
cost
$75.00 BAD
DEAL and we can't do it!
I
wonder where Google's public service and
"Support Our Troops" thoughts
are? New graduates of the school just
starting out in the military can't support
that amount!
We
are investigating other avenues to take...
and frankly I could use your help and
advice.
If
you have skills to assist with web
development, or (a possibility) ,
step up to the plate and offer some
volunteer time. Your experience will
always look good on a future resume. Any
ideas on where to host our domain, etc.,
will also be appreciated.
Just
to offset any "offers" - NO we
do not have funding available. All
dues receipts are pumped into support for
the school ( yes we do pay for our postage
expenses, printing, etc. but that's about
it - There are no free three martini
lunches, not even free one beer lunches)!
Help
spread the word by sending this
information to other DINFOS Alum - we
really need you!
